HEALTH: How to take care of your health in MONSOON SEASON?


The smell of the wet mud, the greenery all around not only makes our heart romantic, but refreshes the memories of those balmy days when sailing paper boats and jumping on water puddle was the greatest pleasure of life. There is something magical about monsoons that revive us physically and emotionally. However, good things come with a cost and therefore, monsoon is not only a season that cleanse the impurities of the Earth, but can also be hazardous to our health, if one doesn’t take proper care.



Basic Monsoon Health Tips

If you are the one who loves rainy season as much we do and wants to enjoy it to the fullest, then follow these basic health tips religiously-

Avoid street food- If you love street food, then it is time to stay far away from it. Your passion for food should stick to your home made meal only because eating street food is like personally giving invitation to diseases.

No to Stagnant Water-Never let stagnant water to collect anywhere near your locality, as it will make a comfy home for mosquitoes to breed and multiply. 

Antiseptic Soaps and Liquid-Use antiseptic liquid as much as you can while bathing as well while cleaning the house. Make sure to pour it in the water to kill infectious germs. Moreover, go for antiseptic soaps instead of common soaps.


Keep your body hydrated and eat nutritious food. Increase intake of Vitamin C in your meal as it good infection resistant.
  • Dry and Clean- Avoid getting wet and if you enjoy rain, then better take shower quickly and dry yourself properly to avoid any disease to catch you. 
  • Clean water- Water borne diseases are common in rain, so drink clean water. Purify it by either boiling it or use water filter. 
  • Use repellents- Human beings are said to have won the world, but it is funny and most of the time disheartening to see same beings losing battle against small mosquitoes. Hence, in order to win battle of survival use mosquito repellents, net and DDT.  

Take umbrella or rainy coat with you in this season to evade getting wet unnecessarily.

Common Diseases and Precautions

Below is the list of common diseases and their precautions-
  • Common Cold and Influenza– As the name itself says, common cold and flu is very common during rainy season. The germs multiply and are very active during this time, causing flu. Beside this, it is also contagious and spread easily.  
  • Precaution-
    • Avoid getting wet in rain and if you love enjoying rain better take shower afterwards and wear dry and clean clothes.
    • Stay away from infected person

  • Cure-
    • Take herbal tea or hot glass of turmeric milk
    • And if your throat is sore, do gaggle with lukewarm salty water.   
  •  Stomach Infection– Stomach infection such as diarrhea, vomiting etc is very common during monsoon. People eating street food or somehow drinking impure water might have trouble with their stomachs. The water gets contaminated easily during rainy season because of mosquitoes and flies.  
  • Precaution-
    • Say no to street food and eat homemade meal.
    • Boil water before drinking to kill germs in it.
     
  • Cure-
    • Consult doctor quickly and drink light food  
  • Skin and Eye Infection– The air around us becomes good germs carrier during rainy season, therefore one may face skin and eye infection in monsoon. Skin Itching or swollen eyes can be very irritating and one would want to stay far away from feeling such way.  
  •  Precaution- 
    • Wash your hands as much as possible. Don’t touch your eyes or skin with dirty hands.
    •  Stay away from infected person
    • Use clean towel to dry your body as well as war clean and dry clothes.   
  •  Cure-
    • Apply camphor and coconut oil all over your body.
    • Wash your eyes
    • Use boil neem water or antiseptic liquid as it kill germs.
      
  • Malaria – The water borne diseases frequently trap people during monsoon and malaria and dengue is one such disease. It is caused by bite of mosquitoes and thus, best way to avoid is to kill mosquitoes.  
  • Precaution- 
    •  Make sure there is no stagnant water near your locality as mosquitoes breed there.
    •  Use mosquito repellent, net and DDT 
  • Cure- 
    • Consult your doctor.  
Beside these, one may also suffer from dengue, viral fever, typhoid and cholera and all are directly or indirectly caused by contaminated water and thus, one should visit doctor and should get vaccinated accordingly.
