HEALTH: Do You Know Why is "JUNK FOOD" harmful to your health?


Junk means something of little value, useless, or a complete waste. Now, imagine if this word is attached before ‘Food’. Yes, it will become junk food, which actually means food which is a waste to your body.

Since, childhood, we are being taught that a balanced diet is must to keep our body fit and fine, but the new culture of hastiness has changed our balanced food diet into junk food or as some say fast food.

What is Junk Food? 


In simple terms, junk food is a food low at nutritional value and high in cholesterol, fat and carbohydrates. The junk food was introduced just for people who don’t have time to cook and need to grab something which is quick to cook and gave pleasure the taste buds. However, soon it captured the food market, which ultimately leads to health condition that we face today.


  • Obesity– Junk food contains fat and carbohydrates which, when accumulated leads to obesity. You put on weight and ultimately that hampers your health, makes you lazy and inactive.
  • Reduces Your Energy Level– Junk food does not consist of nutrients required to make our body healthy and energetic. Thus, when you consume it, you become obese, which further reduces your
    energy levels and ultimately your performance.
  • Health Conditions– Junk food is poison to one’s health. Besides obesity, it also harms the vital organs of our body. Many cardiologists believe that people who prefer junk food are more
    likely to suffer from a heart attack because of high cholesterol.
Beside this, it also affects the functioning of liver and kidney. Moreover, it is one of the biggest reasons for diabetes.
  • Obstacle for Mental and Physical Growth– For the proper physical and mental development of the body, a balanced diet is a must. Our diet needs to have adequate amount of protein, minerals,
    vitamins etc but when one chooses junk food high in cholesterol over proper meal, it hinders the growth of the brain as well as body.
  • Digestive System– Whenever you eat fast food, just pray it doesn’t give your stomach any trouble. The complain of stomach ache, constipation, loose motion and acidity increases tenfold if one
    eat too much junk food.
  • Depression– Depression is one of the most common traits among obese people. They feel lazy, unattractive, which result in them getting upset and depressed. Moreover, when one doesn’t take
    proper meal, it also results in mood swings, aggression and irritation. Since, we know overweight is result of junk food, thus, indirectly, it makes one depressed and under confident.
Above mentioned are only some of the few effects that junk food has on our health. It really weakens one physically, mentally and emotionally. Thus, it becomes necessary for us all to put a stop to it somehow.

How to Stay Healthy?

Health is more precious than any wealth that you have and thus, it is important to take care of yourself and that is not possible until you stop eating junk food or do something to lessen its effects.


Below are some tips to stay healthy-
  • Eat Proper Meals– In-take of meals high in fiber, vitamins, proteins and minerals. Make sure it has low sugar level and carbohydrates.
    • Reduce Junk Food– Eating fast food, once or twice in a month is fine but eating it on daily and weekly basis is not done at all as it will just cause harm to your body. 
      • Exercise– still if you just can’t stay away from junk food, then its better do exercise daily. Exercise will help you to burn the fat and carbohydrates that you may accumulate because of having
        junk food. This way you can eat your favorite food without any adverse consequences. 
        So it’s time you say hi to health and bid goodbye to junk food. After all, health is your best possession and you should take all the necessary measures to ensure that you remain healthy.
